Recently Mercedes-Benz unveiled a brand new generation of the famous G-Wagon. No doubt an AMG version would follow soon and here it is. The brand new G 63 AMG will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show beginning of March. Some of the highlights of the new G 63 AMG:
- M157 5,5 l V8 is replaced by the M177 4,0 l V8 with 585 hp at 6.000 rpm & 850 Nm torque between 2.500 and 3.500 rpm, and with cylinder deactivation system.
- AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive with rear-biased torque distribution of 40:60 (previous model had 50:50 ratio).
- Specific off-road reduction gear with reduction ratio of 2.93 (versus 2.1 of the preceding model) which leads to significant higher torque. This reduction gear can be engaged with the Low Range switch at speeds of up to 40 km/h. Switching from Low Range to High Range can be done up till speeds of 70 km/h. The three differential locks can still be locked manually while driving (first centre, then rear and then front).
- AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission with double-declutching function in “Sport” and “Sport Plus” transmission modes.
- 13,2 l fuel consumption per 100 km (299 g CO2/km).
- 0 – 100 km/h in 4,5 seconds and electronically governed top speed of 220 km/h, 240 km/h with AMG Driver’s Package.
- AMG Ride Control Suspension available with three different sets of damping characteristics (Comfort, Sport & Sport+). The front axle has an independent double wishbone suspension and at the rear there is a rigid axle with a five-link suspension. The components are directly mounted on the ladder-type chassis. Both should help to reduce the body roll.
- Torsionally rigid ladder-type frame of high-strength steel and mounted body of composite construction: wings, bonnet and doors are made of aluminium, the A and B-pillars are made of high-strength steel. The torsional rigidity of the frame increases from 6.537 to 10.162 Nm/deg.
- Edition 1 with several red accents (exterior mirror housings and 22-inch forged wheels) available in first production year. Only available in magnetite black, obsidian black, iridium silver, mojave silver, selenite grey, designo graphite metallic, magnetite black, obsidian black, iridium silver, mojave silver, selenite grey, designo graphite metallic, designo platinum black or designo platinum black.
- Market launch in June 2018.
