Earlier today Mercedes-Benz presented the facelift of its S-Class at the Shangai Auto Show including two updated AMG versions: the S 63 AMG 4MATIC+ and the S 65 AMG facelift. The S 63 AMG facelift drops the M156 5,5 l V8 and can count from now on on the M177 engine of the E 63 S AMG (612 hp and 900 Nm). With the latter one the S 63 AMG facelift also shares the 4MATIC+ technology. Mercedes doesn’t specify if likewise the E 63 S, the S 63 AMG will also have the drift mode available. To be continued … An electro-mechanically controlled clutch connects the permanently driven rear axle variably to the front axle and the best possible torque split is continuously calculated according to the driving conditions and the input of the driver.
No engine update for the S 65 AMG facelift, but still 630 hp and 1.000 Nm available. In terms of looks, both the S 63 and S 65 receive new bumpers, new headlights and a stunning looking new steering wheel. In terms of performance, thanks to fourwheeldrive, the S 63 sprints in 3,5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. The rear wheel driven S 65 AMG does it in ‘only’ 4,3 seconds and has two gears less as the S 63 can count on the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9. The S 63 AMG can also reckon on cylinder deactivation, meaning it can act as 4-cylinder if less performance is needed.
