After just two years, Mercedes-AMG replaces the E 43 AMG sedan and break by the E 53 AMG. Not surprisingly as the E coupé and the new CLS are recently available as 53 AMG. The engine output increases from 401 hp to 457 hp thanks to the EQ Boost starter-generator (electric engine) and thanks to the switch from the 3,0 l V6 to 3,0 l six-in-line. The starter-generator is placed between the engine and the transmission. Recharging the 48 V battery is possible thanks to the electric auxiliary compressor and an exhaust gas turbocharger.

Also new is the fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system which can switch fully variable from rear-wheel to all-wheel drive. Good news for speed hunters as the top speed is now limited to 270 km/h instead of the conventional 250 km/h. Luckily the brake force has been adjusted accordingly. In line with the E 63 AMG, the E 53 AMG also has two power bulges on the bonnet.
