The new Formula 1 season starting this weekend reminded me to a special edition of the CL 55 AMG that was launched back in 2000: the CL 55 AMG F1 Limited Edition. At that time, the CL 55 AMG was acting as Safety Car during the F1 races and with that Safety Car in mind, Mercedes equiped the CL 55 AMG F1 Limited Edition with ceramic brakes with significant better braking performance than the standard brakes.

Furthermore, per brake disc a weight saving of 6 kg was obtained thanks to the ceramic material. Apart from some exterior badges, specific racing seats, carbon accents on the center console and high performance Bridgestone tyres, the changes versus the ‘standard’ CL 55 AMG were limited. Also the engine remained untouched (5,5 l V8 with 360 hp). The CL 55 AMG M113 C215 is already difficult to spot so the chance that you will meet the F1 Limited Edition is almost zero as only 55 units were available.
